The project, involving the Hospital del Mar Research Institute alongside VHIO, coordinated by INCLIVA and funded by the Spanish Association Against Cancer, studies the mechanisms of tumor cell resistance to therapy in order to prevent relapses and improve patient survival. The results suggest the development of a relapse prediction system using AI and the use of liquid biopsy to identify and characterize high-risk patients, which will allow for the development of more personalized strategies.

A study conducted by the Hospital del Mar Research Institute, using data from the Girona Heart Registry (REGICOR), reveals that people who follow healthy diets have a lower risk of experiencing depression symptoms or receiving a depression diagnosis. In fact, improving adherence to a healthy diet, such as the Mediterranean diet, reduces the risk of depression by 16%. The authors of the study suggest that recommendations aimed at improving diet could serve as a non-pharmacological complement in the treatment of depressive disorders.

· Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) patients who die had, years earlier, a higher presence of about thirty proteins in their blood related to inflammation and coagulation. · Detecting these proteins allows for a very accurate prediction of future mortality risk in patients with stable COPD, according to a multicenter pilot study led by Hospital del Mar, recently published in the journal Cells. · Researchers used various models to predict mortality risk through an AI-assisted program developed by the Biomedical Informatics Research Group at Pompeu Fabra University (UPF) and the Hospital del Mar Research Institute, one of which reached a precision level of 95%.
