Dr. Javier Molero has won the SEE-CIBERESP Award for the best communications presented by young researchers at the annual meeting of the SEE, held in Cádiz.
Dr. Javier Molero, a resident doctor from the Teaching Unit of Preventive Medicine and Public Health at Hospital del Mar, Pompeu Fabra University, and the Barcelona Public Health Agency, won the SEE-CIBERESP Award for the best communications presented by young researchers at the annual meeting of the Sociedad Española de Epidemiología(SEE). He received the award for his work titled "Analysis of Seroprotection Prevalence and Vaccination Coverage among Hospital del Mar Staff," in which Mireia Utzet and Consol Serra participated as his mentors, and which was co-authored by Fernando García Benavides, Pilar Díaz, and Joan Mirabent. The study is the result of Dr. Molero's work at the Centro de Investigación en Salud Laboral (CISAL) of the Hospital del Mar Research Institute and Pompeu Fabra University, in collaboration with the Occupational Health Service of Hospital del Mar.
The study evaluated the seroprevalence of four diseases-measles, rubella, mumps, and chickenpox-among healthcare workers at Hospital del Mar, based on serological data recorded by the Occupational Health Service of more than 4,000 professionals hired during 2022. Demographic and occupational variables were taken into account.
The conclusions indicate a slight decrease in measles immunity, with an overall seroprevalence of 93.7%, among younger workers, night shift staff, and those on temporary contracts. Regarding mumps, with an overall seroprevalence of 86.3%, individuals born between 1970 and 1999, trainees, and healthcare technicians had lower seroprotection. In the cases of rubella and chickenpox, the overall protection stood at 96.7% and 97.6%, respectively.
