Dr. Helena Tizón, an attending physician in the Cardiology Department at Hospital del Mar and a researcher at the Hospital del Mar Research Institute, is now the director of the Comprehensive Plan for Cardiovascular Diseases in Catalonia, specifically in cardiovascular diseases. Her appointment was effective last December, as decided by the Minister of Health, Manel Balcells. Dr. Josepa Mauri, a Hospital Germans Trias i Pujol physician, has held this position for the last 8 years.

The Comprehensive Plan for Cardiovascular Diseases aims to enhance care for individuals with these pathologies by reorganizing resources, health promotion, and preventive actions. This plan includes early diagnosis, appropriate treatment, and rehabilitation with a territorial, social, gender-inclusive, equitable, and sustainable perspective. Its mission is to advise and propose to the Department of Health to reduce mortality associated with these diseases and improve the quality of life for those affected. The plan is co-directed by a specialist in cardiovascular diseases and one in cerebrovascular diseases.
She is a specialist in interventional cardiology and cardiac imaging by magnetic resonance. Trained at the Teaching Unit of Hospital del Mar and holding a doctorate from UAB, she completed her residency at Hospital Germans Trias i Pujol. She furthered her training in Canada at IUCPQ and the University of Laval. In 2011, she joined Hospital del Mar, where she leads research in the AMI Code and is part of the research groups REGICOR, GREC, and CIBER in cardiovascular diseases (CIBERCV). Additionally, she is involved in continuous education committees and the SEM committee at Hospital del Mar, and she is one of the responsible figures for training specialists in interventional cardiology at the center.
