The board of the Spanish Society of Pneumology and Thoracic Surgery has decided that the Hospital del Mar pneumologist and researcher at the Hospital del Mar Medical Research Institute will head up the committee responsible for managing and organising the society's policy documents.
The Spanish Society of Pneumology and Thoracic Surgery (SEPAR), has appointed Dr. Esther Barreiro, a consultant in the Pneumology Department at Hospital del Mar and coordinator of the Muscle Wasting and Cachexia in Chronic Respiratory Diseases and Lung Cancer Research Group at the Hospital del Mar Medical Research Institute (IMIM), as coordinator of the SEPAR committee responsible for managing the regulations and recommendations that will be issued by the society. The appointment was made at the first meeting of the new SEPAR governing board.
Dr. Barreiro will be in charge of coordinating the management and organisation of the society's documents, including official guidelines and regulations. This involves evaluating all SEPAR policy documents on the management of patients with various pulmonary pathologies, including COPD, lung cancer and asthma, as well as those referring to specific situations such as the current COVID-19 pandemic, tobacco consumption, and the effects of pollution on lung health. Her task will be to evaluate, from the point of view of content, the need and justification for the drafting and final edition, as well as the technical and scientific quality and the degree of evidence used.
