14/07/2008 - Press release
This biennial meeting is an initiative of the European organisation EuroScience, which has more than 2,100 members from 40 countries, among them scientists, research managers, politicians and businessmen.
More than 3,000 scientists from all disciplines, politicians and businessmen will participate in 112 conferences and debates with 430 speakers. 20,000 visitors are expected for more than 70 expositions and public events for young people and families. These are some of the figures expected for the third meeting of the multidisciplinary, transverse ESOF2008, EuroScience Open Forum, organised by EuroScience and the Catalan Foundation for Research and Innovation (FCRI) that will be held in Barcelona (Recinte Ferial de Montjuïc 1, Palau de Congressos) from the 18th to 22nd of July.
IMIM is participating in two scientific debates and an activity open to the general public.
ESOF is not a typical scientific meeting. Its special multidisciplinary and transverse structure unites researchers from many diverse disciplines who can come into contact and directly debate in the same forum with other specialists involved in the scientific field: politicians, communications specialists, businessmen, students and, in the open sections, the general public. This biennial meeting is an initiative of the European organisation EuroScience, which has more than 2,100 members from 40 countries, among them scientists, research managers, politicians and businessmen. EuroScience assigns the management of each edition of ESOF to an organisation and a city, in this case the FCRI and Barcelona. The first edition took place in 2004 in Stockholm, Sweden, and the second in Munich, Germany in 2006. Barcelona’s designation as venue for ESOF takes advantage of and extends the growing recognition of the city as a main player in areas such as biotechnology and biomedicine.
