Clara Montagut is a medical oncologist, Head of the Gastrointestinal Cancer Section in the Oncology Department at Hospital del Mar and Deputy Director of the Hospital del Mar Research Institute, where she also leads the Colorectal Cancer Precision Medicine Group. She is Associate Professor at Pompeu Fabra University.

After training as a medical oncologist at Hospital Clinic in Barcelona (2000-2004), Clara Montagut completed her training on translational research at the Massachusetts General Hospital Cancer Center - Harvard School of Medicine, Boston (2007-2008). She worked on biomarkers and mechanisms of resistance to biological drugs, that resulted in several publications and the completion of her PhD in BioMedicine. Back from US in 2009, she joined the Medical Oncology Service of Hospital del Mar to be in charge of colorectal cancer patients and started her own line of research in colorectal cancer and liquid biopsy, identifying the cause of anti-EGFR therapy resistance patented and licensed the discovery for use in daily clinical practice.

Fifteen years later, Clara Montagut is internationally recognized in the field of precision medicine, biomarkers, resistance to targeted therapy and implementation of liquid biopsy in colorectal cancer. She leads several national and international multicentric projects within cooperative groups including TTD and CiberONC, as well as academic collaborations with national and international experts in colorectal cancer. As a key opinion leader in liquid biopsy, Clara Montagut contributes to the elaboration of the European and American guidelines and recommendations for the use of liquid biopsies. She is faculty member of the Scientific Committe at ESMO, as well as of the Spanish TTD group.
