Hospital del Mar Research Institut commemorates 75 years of tireless research work with the aim of improving people's health through biomedical science of excellence. What began in 1948 as a pavilion for medical research on tropical diseases at the Hospital del Mar, inaugurated by the Nobel Prize winner Sir Alexander Fleming, has become in the 21st century an international reference center for biomedical research, with leading projects in health and life sciences.
This celebration is a turning point in the research trajectory for Hospital del Mar. A moment of transformation, growth, and international projection, strengthening the relationship with Hospital del Mar, and transforming our brand identity from the Hospital del Mar Medical Research Institute to be the Hospital del Mar Research Institute while maintaining our unquestionable commitment to promoting health and well-being.
To celebrate it, a program of activities has been organized around three main axes: institutional, scientific and sociocultural.
In the sociocultural area, we highlight a historical photographic exhibition curated by the historian Daniel Venteo, which aims to bring the public, with images and unpublished documents, the historical trajectory of the institution and the most important scientific milestones achieved by researchers throughout these 75 years of history. Visitors will be able to become familiar with the diseases to which the scientific community has dedicated its research. From the most common contagious diseases from the fifties to the most innovative and current research.
The exhibition will open on June 9 at the Passeig Marítim in Barcelona (between the Hospital del Mar and the Barcelona Biomedical Research Park -PRBB) and can be visited throughout the summer. Also, those who can not attend or want more information, may do so from this website that aims to publicize a very significant part of the history of science in our country.
