En el marc de les sessions del Programa de neurociències, el proper divendres dia 22 de maig a les 12:00 hores tindrà lloc a la sala Xipre (173.06-1a planta IMIM) la sessió que porta per títol "New therapeutic strategies with RNA interference for brain diseases: Focus on depression and Parkinson's disease" impartida per la Dra. Analía Bortolozzi, investigadora del Departament de Neuroquímica i Neurofarmacologia de l'Institut de Investigacions Biomèdiques de Barcelona (IIBB).
Abstract
RNA interference (RNAi) is a powerful approach for reducing expression of endogenously expressed proteins. It is widely used for biological applications and is being harnessed to silence mRNAs encoding pathogenic proteins for brain therapy. Various methods -including intranasal delivery of conjugated RNA oligonucleotides- have been developed for successful RNAi in vivo. Using this strategy, recently we have reduced the expression of genes selectively in the serotonin or dopamine neurons of mice with a clear interest for the treatment of depression and Parkinson’s disease, respectively.
