At the congress commemorating the institution's tenth anniversary, held in Valencia from November 27 to 29.
The PENSA project, driven by the Hospital del Mar Research Institute and the Barcelona βeta Brain Research Center, received one of the awards for the best communications at the congress of the Centro de Investigación Biomédica en Red (CIBERISCIII). This event marked the tenth anniversary of the scientific institution.
Researcher Laura Forcano, a member of the PENSA project and the CIBER for Obesity and Nutrition Pathophysiology (CIBEROBN), presented the communication in the congress's thematic session on aging, frailty, and dependency. She also accepted the award, which was granted by popular vote and included a prize of 1,000 euros.
The PENSA Project (Prevention of cognitive decline in ApoE4 carriers with Subjective Cognitive Decline after EGCG and a multimodal intervention) aims to contribute to research on effective treatments to prevent or delay dementia. It is a prevention clinical trial that monitored 200 volunteers experiencing memory complaints over the course of a year, a stage that may precede Alzheimer's disease.
This recognition adds to other previous awards obtained by the project, such as the prize for responsible research and innovation in health from the Instituto de Salud Carlos III.
